Getting Old Again

There’s no practicing getting old. It just creeps up on you, a little ache here, a crackling joint there, people talking faster, driving erratically, little by little it hounds you to death (sick joke,ha ha). It seems like all of a sudden you’re on a cane. Then a walker. Your friends are disappearing along with your hair and an occasional tooth. What the .. .? No one gave me a date, like “On April 17 you will be OLD.

If it’s any help, Cicero said, two thousand years ago, among other things, a way to make getting old easier is to, “read and learn”. So true. For example, read “American Dirt” to help understand the immigration problem. Read “Original Sin” on how not to deny being old.

And being the eternal optimist, here’s what’s good about senescence; eat and drink whatever and whenever: young people begin to ask you questions (you may have to wait to your nineties for this one): no more mowing the lawn, climbing ladders, washing windows: you can remember way back further than anyone ; help for just about anything is on its way .

I promise to write no more about this. From now on it’s “the Advantages of Youth”. Really.
