The thing about baby animals is they’re so CUTE! The fawn, spots and all, is old enough to cavort, jump and hop away from his mother, who becomes very attentive, watchful and alert every minute. The fawn loves to explore, sniffing at everything, comes up to my door and spends some time looking in. How adorable.
Then we have the young rabbit, who is frankly pretty boring to watch. Unlike the baby groundhog (a first for this back yard) who is obviously out for the first time, and keeps so close to his mother, it appears to be attached at the hip. Amazing how alike he is, same fur, same color, matches her steps, her motions with his.
So here they come. The fruits of spring. Baby robins, crowding the nest in Masschusetts, Two survivors, mouths open, demanding food in the classic pose, for real. My correspondent in Conecticut reporting a sighting of baby bears in the woods behind their back yard.
No list would be complete without the human babies, reporting in via telephone picture, adorable little boy, enjoying the attention of his live -in grandma. I think we could all do with some of the innocence of babies.
And in this family, the famous words of wisdom from the father; “All babies look like Winston Churchill.”
